Vitality T20 Blast 2022: Start Date, Schedule, Squad, Teams List


The Vitality Blast 2022 is a professional cricket tournament between various English and Welsh first class-counties. Established in 2003 by the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board), the contest is a top-tier T20 competition in England and Wales. The T20 Blast in 2022 is going to be the 20th edition of the series.

The competition has been recognized by a host of names owing to commercial sponsorship. However 2018 onwards, an insurance company is known as Vitality funded the contest, thereby renaming it the Vitality Blast ever since. All set to commence 25th May 2022 onwards, the contest will be featuring 18 county teams.

Vitality T20 Blast 2022 Schedule, Squad, Teams List

As per Vitality T20 Blast 2022 Schedule, the tournament will commence on 25th May 2022, and on the opening night, there will be a rematch between the 2021 edition’s finalists – Somerset and Kent Spitfires. The group stage will be conducted over a time span of 40 days with the matches to be played in an all-player tournament format. The finals are scheduled to be organized on Sunday, July 3.

The quarter-finals will be staged from 6-10 July before the sold-out Finals Day that will be staged at Edgbaston on July 16, a week later.

What are the groups and formats?

The groups remain the same with North and South divisions, as each county gets to compete at 14 group stage matches – 7 at home and 7 away.

North Group

Birmingham Bears, Derbyshire Falcons, Worcestershire Rapids, Lancashire Lightning, Leicestershire Foxes, Northamptonshire Steelbacks, Notts Outlaws, Yorkshire Vikings, Durham.

South Group

Essex Eagles, Sussex Sharks, Gloucestershire, Hampshire Hawks, Middlesex, Somerset, Surrey, Glamorgan, and Kent Spitfires.

‘Overseas’ players in each county

Each county is to accommodate a maximum of two ‘overseas’ players in a Vitality Blast match. Already some big-name stars have been enlisted for including Carlos Brathwaite (Birmingham Bears), Marnus Labuschagne (Glamorgan), Shaheen Afridi (Middlesex), Rashid Khan (Sussex Sharks), Qais Ahmed (Kent Spitfires), Mohammad Rizwan and Travis Head ( for Sussex Sharks) and Matthew Wade (Worcestershire Rapids) with many more to come.
